The MahaSiddha Tradition is the oldest form of Tantric Buddhism. It was originally practiced by Maha (Great) Siddhas (Accomplished Meditators) of India. They were unconventional Yogis and Yoginis who embodied the path of awakening in all aspects of ordinary life.
The tradition culminated
in the life of Padmasambhava and Yeshe Tsogyal, who synthesized,
recorded and spread these teachings that came to be known
as Vajrayana or the Inner Tantras. After their lifetime,
these teachings, under the confluence of political, monastic
and institutional forces, were adapted into the popular
form of Vajrayana known today. That form is characterized
by its long, elaborate rituals, emphasis on renunciation,
and chanting of long liturgies.
However the original, simple, and direct style of the
Inner Tantras as displayed by the MahaSiddhas continued
to exist outside the margins of maintstream, institutionalized
religion. Highly accomplished Yogis/Yoginis, since the
time of the Buddha have demonstrated the efficacy and
potency of the MahaSiddhas approach. Our school was founded
in order to express, make visible, and embody the essential
wisdom of the Mahasiddha's Buddhism in our modern world
where such a to-the-point, simple, and joyous practice
is intensely relevant. More...
